Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry Scholarships
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a number of scholarships available for our students. We encourage you to apply by filling out the SA application and any secondary documentation required and turn it in by the deadline.
Robert C. Belloli Future Chemistry Teacher Scholarship
Amount: $500
Established by: This scholarship was established by Professor Belloli to provide encouragement and support to students preparing to teach Chemistry in grades 7-12. An ad-hoc committee will review the student's academic record and the information provided on the scholarship application.
Open to: This scholarship is open to graduating senior majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry committed to becoming chemistry teachers in junior high or high school.
Criteria: Formal application to Secondary Credential in Chemistry program. Pass CSET in Chemistry
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answer all 7 questions and sign the certification; and 2) Submit application to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, MH-580.

Glenn Nagel Scholarship
Amount: $4,000
Established by: This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Glenn Nagel, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, to support research experiences for undergraduates. A departmental committee will select the recipient.
Open to: This scholarship is open to undergraduate students interested in doing summer research.
Criteria: Academic achievement and academic potential
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification; and 2) Submit application to the CSUF Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, room

Application Deadline: March 16
Glenn Nakaya Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Established by: This scholarship is named in memory of Glenn Nakaya, an outstanding biochemistry graduate of Cal State Fullerton, who succumbed to cancer. It is awarded to a student who has shown academic potential or achievement. The recipient is awarded $800 cash plus a $200 book credit.
Open to: This scholarship is open to undergraduate students in chemistry/biochemistry.
Criteria: Full-time student, academic achievement, academic potential
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answer all 7 questions and sign the certification; and 2) Submit application to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, MH-580.
Application Deadline: March 16
James Sternberg Scholarship
Amount: $500
Established by: This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. James Sternberg, a distinguished scientist with Beckman Instruments to assist students who excel in academic performance and show promise in research. The department chair and graduate advisor will make the selection. Finalists may be interviewed.
Open to: This scholarship is open to a first year graduate students completing research.
Criteria: Academic achievement, academic potential
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide a letter of recommendation from your faculty mentor; 3) Submit application materials to the CSUF Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, MH-580; and 4) If selected, complete interview.
Application Deadline: March 16
Glorya Welch Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Established by: This scholarship is named in memory of Glorya Welch, whose estate provided the endowment to fund the scholarship.
Open to: This scholarship is open to new community college transfer students based on their first semester at CSUF in a minimum of 6 units of chemistry or biochemistry major coursework.
Criteria: GPA, academic achievement, academic potential, financial need
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or have one on file, for establishing financial need; 3) Submit letter of recommendation from a faculty member from your previous college; 4) Provide another letter of recommendation from a CSUF faculty member of the Chemistry and Biochemistry department; 5) Submit application materials to the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, MH-580, (657) 278-3621; and 6) If selected, complete an interview.
