Dr. Nicholas Salzameda

Teaching

CHEM 301A Organic Chemistry
CHEM 302 Organic Chemistry Laboratory

Education

Postdoctoral, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA (Professor Kim Janda)
Ph.D. University of Nevada, Reno (Professor David Lightner)
B.A. University of San Diego, California

Research Interests

We are involved in two areas of research: the synthesis of novel peptide catalysts for asymmetric carbon-carbon bond forming reactions and the discovery of biologically active molecules for disruption of protein-protein interactions, focusing on targets related to human health. Both of these research objectives are centered on solid phase reaction methodology.

Salzameda Group Activities

January 2012: Salzameda Group undergraduate students Allia Fawaz and Alex Burtea present their research at the 24th Annual CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology in San Jose, California.

December 2011: Undergraduates Cheryl Tjandra and Roxanne Maniquis join the Salzameda Group.

Current Salzameda Group Members: Cheryl Tjandra, Omran Karmach, Roxanne Maniquis, Vince Vu, Allia Fawaz, and Alex Burtea

March 2011: Salzameda Group undergraduate students, Vince Vu, Allia Fawaz, Omran Karmach and Alex Burtea present their research at the ACS National Meeting:

  • Alex Burtea and Allia Fawaz, poster title: "Discovery and development of small molecule inhibitors for the botulinum neurotoxin E protease"
  • Omar Karmach and Vince Vu, poster title: "Development and application of peptide catalysts for the asymmetric Michael addition"
