Professor Katherine Kantardjieff, CMolS Director, and Bryden Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Robert Stroud (UCSF). Stroud's lecture, entitled "Crystallography "Bri-dens" Two Billion Years of Transmembrane Biology", discussed his laboratory's crystallographic studies on the ammonia channel and aquaporins.

Bryden Distinguished Lecturers: Professor Robert Bau (USC, 2006) and Professor Robert Stroud (UCSF, 2008)

Upcoming Events

    • James Zhao joins CMolS as staff scientist. We are delighted to announce that Dr. James Zhao, formerly with Anadys Pharmaceuticals in San Diego, will be joining CMolS as staff scientist on May 12, 2008. More about James soon.

    • CEI2008: Cyber-Enabled Instrumentation in Chemistry Strategic Planning Workshop. July 16-18, 2008, Hilton Arlington, VA. The initial call for participation may be found here.  Sessions will be webcast by iLinc Communications.

    • CMolS Modern Biomolecular Crystallography Workshop. June 22-27, 2008, Cal State Fullerton. For further information and application, please see http://chemistry.gsu.edu/CWCS/up.php. Applications will be accepted through the end of April. Sessions will be webcast by iLinc Communications.

    • Bryden Distinguished Lecture. Professor John Bryden, a crystallographer, was the founding member of the Department of Chemistry at CSU Fullerton. To coincide with our campus' 50th Anniversary celebrations, Professor Robert Stroud, UCSF, delivered this year's Bryden Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, April 10. A webcast of the lecture will be distributed in June. Pictures are shown at the left. For background on Dr. Stroud's career and work, please look here.

    •  Video of 2006 Bryden Distinguished Lecture. Robert Bau's lecture on neutron diffraction as applied to the study of hydrogen bonding in metal hydride complexes and proteins is now available in two formats. To view on the web, click here. To download for your iPod, please go to our Archive, using the menu at the left.

    •  2008 American Crystallographic Association National Meeting. May 31-June 5, 2008, Kxowville, TN. Meeting features tour of the new spallation neutron source at Oakridge National Laboratory. For further information, please see http://neutrons.ornl.gov/conf/aca2008/

    •  International Union of Crystallography Congress and General Assembly. August 23-31, 2008, Osaka, JP. For further information, please see http://www.iucr2008.jp/.

    • CMolS and SSRL enter partnership. CMolS and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL) will provide CSU faculty and students access to synchrotron radiation for high level x-ray diffraction experiments. Please see the CSUPERB Symposium abstract for details.

    • Webinar Series "Lunch and Learn About" This webinar series, sponsored by a generous educational matching grant from iLincÔ Communications, will resume in Fall, 2008. If you are not on our current email distribution list, please contact us and let us know to add you. We wish to thank last spring's speakers:  James Kaduk, director of the diffraction laboratory at Innovene USA LLC, Clyde Smith from SSRL and Joe Mulvaney from the San Diego PDB group. Copies of the seminar powerpoint presentations can be downloaded from our Archive.
